The count covers every domain name that has ever been registered in all extensions. But I'll bet less than a fourth of those are active.

Are .nl.tt etc counted too?
(Since you said all extenions).

.TK and all those other free domains may be even more than .com domains ^^.

That's what the article said, every one way back from the first 100 dot coms and every county ccTLD.

BTW, .de has the most number of domains in the ccTLD.
