How do you know when a domain name will delete?

Postby wadhah on Sun Feb 10, 2008 1:17 pm

I know when a domain name status is in deletion period, but how do you guys know the exact date of deletetion? I am monitoring manually a domain name that I am interested in and it finally hit the deletion period..I know it will be available shortly, but I want to find out the specific date...how do I do this?

also...what are good places to pick up dropped domains..I am using snapnames and pool, though I have had zero luck with snapnames in 4 years.

You could always do a whios check on the domain, which would give you the month of expiration. I don't know how much luck you'd have with it. After the domain expires, there is a grace period of 30 days (not sure) before the domain can again be registered. You may have to back order the domain with such a registrar if you are really serious about it. But who knows, you may not get the chance at all if the current owner decides to renew the domain.

So in that grace period of 30 days or so, only the domain owner has the right to renew the domain? I mean the domain can change hands only after the grace period, and not just on the day it expires?

@TheUniqueTiger:
Yeah. Only the owner can renew the domain in the grace period and it cannot be transfered in this time.

@wadhah:
Yes. Whois+30 days for the domain to be available for registration again. (That is if the owner does not renew it. :P )
